    Woodcraft Skills

    Cannock Chase - Staffordshire £110

Perhaps one of the most fluid and varied of skills sets, Woodcraft encompasses tool use, knowledge of the forest and the materials found within it. During the course of the day you will develop additional skills with the bow saw, billhook and knife while being introduced to a range of other tools and their use. By the end of the day you will have completed several projects and leave with a carving project you will have started.

    Fire by Friction

    Cannock Chase - Staffordshire £110

The course will start by exploring the qualities and options for tinder, kindling and fuel in greater detail as well as revisiting and developing your skills with a fire-flash. We will then introduce the Bow Drill and teach you the properties and proportions needed to make a set of your own and then develop your ability to light fire though friction. There will also be time to introduce you to other forms of fire by friction including the hand-drill, pump-drill and fire plough.

    Campfire Cooking

    Cannock Chase - Staffordshire £110

The ability to manage a campfire so as to get the exact qualities required for cooking a sumptuous meal is a skill in itself. We will explore the properties of different materials that can help or hinder your cooking as well as a number of ways to arrange your fire so as to produce the results you wish. You will use a range of techniques in cooking the evening meal.

    Tracking

Tracking is the art of following subtle signs, reading the woodland for the passage of others, seeing those same places with new eyes.  We will show you how to engage the senses to a new level as well as how to locate, identify and interpret signs left by human and animal.  You will also experience how to stalk close for truly magical moments.
