Forest Schools level 3 practitioners award.

Level 3 Booklet

This course is an opportunity to explore to a higher level, different approach to using the outdoor environment in a Forest School setting. You will investigate how best to design and run a Forest School programme and look at how to approach and apply it safely and effectively.

This Level 3 course is aimed at individuals who have a minimum Level 2 qualification in Youth Work, Child Care, Teaching or equivalent relevant qualifications, experience of practical activities in the out of doors (see level 2 above), and wish to coordinate, manage and lead Forest School Sessions with children, young people or adults.

The course content of this qualification is based on up-to-date research surrounding aspects of

~ Child development
~ Personal development
~ Neuro-science
~ Accelerated Learning
~ Woodland conservation and recreation
~ Innovative and therapeutic theory in the outdoors
~ Risk assessments to enable safe outdoor play and education.

Course Duration:

Stage 1: Initial training week consisting of 5 consecative days of training.

Stage 2: Portfolio work and first aid - Candidates take away their porfolio to work on (Minimum 6 months) and must also complete their ITC first aid training before attending the assesment week.

Stage 3: Assesment Week- Consisting of 5 consecutive days of assesment.

You must return your completed portfolio to us within one year from your initial training week. Please return your portfolio by recorded or special delivery remembering to include a copy of your first aid certificate and your CRB check.

Course Costs: £884 per person inc. Training, First Aid, Assessment and VAT

Taught Units:

Unit 1: Forest School Practical Skills and Woodland Management.
Unit 2: Learning and Development at Forest School .
Unit 3: Establishing and Delivery of a Forest SchoolProgramme.

Before actively running programmes you will be required to hold:

First Aid Qualification
Clean CRB reference
These can all be organised through Archimedes.

A Forest School Practitioner will enable children to:

Explore:
Magical, stimulating, mysterious, relaxing, exciting, amazing, interesting, educational, safe & fun environments.

Experience:
Achievement, complete challenging tasks, develop relationships and act as positive role models, provide supported learning, problem solving, working in teams or independently, developing self-awareness, self-esteem and building confidence.

* For the Level 3 Forest Schools Practitioners Award it is a pre-requisite to have an appropriate First Aid Certificate such as the ITC / REC 16 hour Outdoor First Aid Certificate/ a First Aid certificate with an outdoor element, both MUST include hypothermia, burns and compression wounds. This can be completed after the initial training but must be held before the assessment. (for attendees of L3 Award from January 2006 onwards)*
