FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Got questions? We’ve got answers!

Do I need any previous Forest School experience?
No prior Forest Schools experience is required. The course is designed for people who are new to Forest Schools and builds your knowledge from the foundations up, including the ethos, practical skills, and how to support a qualified Forest Schools Leader.
What is the difference between Level 2 and Level 3?
Level 2 qualifies you to assist at Forest School sessions under the supervision of a qualified Level 3 Leader. Level 3 qualifies you to plan, lead, and take full responsibility for Forest School programmes. If your goal is to run your own sessions, Level 3 is the qualification you need. If you want to properly support sessions as part of a team, Level 2 is the right fit.
Will this qualification let me lead Forest Schools sessions on my own?
No. Level 2 is an Assistant qualification, not a Leadership qualification. To lead sessions independently and obtain public liability insurance as a Forest Schools Leader, you need the Level 3 qualification. Many of our learners begin with Level 2 and progress to Level 3 when they are ready.
What support do I get if I am struggling with the coursework?
You have direct access by booking a live tutor support session, who will help give answers to your questions. You also receive written feedback on your coursework that you submit, along with step-by-step portfolio guidance so you always know what is expected.
Can I progress to Level 3 later?
Yes. Many of our Level 2 graduates go on to complete Level 3 with us. Your Level 2 knowledge gives you a strong foundation, and our team can guide you through the options for progression when you're ready. If you apply for the Level 3 within 6 months, you only have to pay the difference between the two courses.
What do I need to complete the course?
You need a computer or tablet with internet access to work through the lessons and submit coursework. For the practical assessment, you will need access to a Forest Schools session where you can assist, plus a way to record visual evidence of the practical skills.
Is this course recognised by employers?
Yes. The Open Awards Level 2 qualification is listed on the Ofqual register of regulated qualifications and is recognised by schools, nurseries, local authorities, and employers across the UK and internationally.
What happens after I qualify?
You can assist at Forest Schools sessions in schools, nurseries, and community settings, support your Level 3 Leader with confidence, and add a properly accredited qualification to your CV. If you decide to continue to your Level 3, then our support continues for you.
