I've seen children who can't sit still for 5 minutes in a classroom happily engage for 2 hours in the woods. This training showed me how to facilitate that properly.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Got questions? We’ve got answers!

What happens during the five training days?
You spend five full days in a woodland setting with our experienced trainers. You develop practical skills including tool use, fire lighting, shelter building, knots, and risk-benefit assessment. You receive in-person feedback, work alongside fellow learners, and build the hands-on confidence that comes from guided practice in a real outdoor environment.
When do I attend the training days?
Training dates run throughout the year at multiple locations across the UK and internationally. Select your preferred location and date when you book. Many learners choose dates that fall during school holidays. If the dates shown do not suit you, contact our team for upcoming availability.
Do I complete the online learning before or after the training days?
Either. Some learners prefer to work through the online content first so they arrive at training with a foundation of knowledge. Others attend training days early and use the experience to inform their online learning afterwards. Your tutor can advise on the best approach for you.
Is this the same qualification as the fully online or two-day course?
Yes. You achieve exactly the same Ofqual-regulated qualification: the Open Awards Level 3 Certificate in Forest School Programme Leadership (RQF). The learning content and assessment standard are identical across all pathways.
How long does it take to complete the full qualification?
Most learners complete within 6 to 12 months. Your five training days are scheduled at a set date, but the online learning and coursework can be completed at your own pace within a 12-month window.
What do I need to complete the course?
You need a computer or tablet with internet access to work through the lessons and submit coursework. For the practical assessment, you will need access to a group of children and an outdoor space where you can deliver a Forest Schools session, plus a way to record video of your delivery.
Do I need any previous Forest School experience?
No prior Forest School experience is required. The training days are designed for people who are new to practical outdoor skills and the online content builds your knowledge from the foundations up.
What do I need to bring to the training days?
We will send you a full kit list before your first training day. Generally you will need outdoor clothing, waterproofs, sturdy footwear, and a packed lunch. All tools and specialist equipment are provided.
What if I cannot attend a training day I have booked?
Let us know as soon as possible. We can usually transfer you to an alternative date at the same or a different location. We understand life happens and we work with you to find a solution.
Will I be able to get insurance with this qualification?
Yes. The Level 3 certificate qualifies you to apply for public liability insurance, which is required to lead Forest School sessions professionally. This applies regardless of which training pathway you complete.
What support do I get between training days and after the course?
You have a dedicated tutor available via email and live Q&A sessions throughout your entire journey. You receive detailed written feedback on every piece of coursework, step-by-step portfolio guidance, and same-day responses to questions. This support continues until you qualify with no time limit.
