Is the self-guided qualification the same as the face-to-face one?
Yes. You achieve exactly the same Ofqual-regulated qualification: the Open Awards Level 3 Certificate in Forest School Programme Leadership (RQF). The learning content and assessment standard are identical across all our training pathways.
Do I need any previous Forest School experience?
No prior Forest School experience is required. The course is designed for educators who are new to Forest School and builds your knowledge from the foundations up.
Will I be able to get insurance with this qualification?
Yes. The Level 3 certificate qualifies you to apply for public liability insurance, which is required to lead Forest School sessions professionally. This applies regardless of which training pathway you complete.
What support do I get if I am struggling with the coursework?
You have direct access to your tutor via email and live Q&A sessions, with same-day responses to questions. You also receive detailed written feedback on every piece of coursework you submit, along with step-by-step portfolio guidance so you always know what is expected.
Can I upgrade to include face-to-face training later?
Yes. If you decide you would like to add practical training days, contact our team and we can discuss options for upgrading to our Supported Training or Full Immersion pathways.
What do I need to complete the course?
You need a computer or tablet with internet access to work through the lessons and submit coursework. For the practical assessment, you will need access to a group of children and an outdoor space where you can deliver a Forest Schools session, plus a way to record video of your delivery.
Is this course recognised by employers?
Yes. The Open Awards Level 3 Certificate is listed on the Ofqual register of regulated qualifications and is recognised by schools, nurseries, local authorities, and employers across the UK and internationally.
What happens after I qualify?
You can lead Forest School sessions in schools, nurseries, and community settings. You become eligible for public liability insurance and can seek employment as a Forest School Leader, start your own Forest School business, or add Forest School to your current role. Our support continues beyond qualification to help you get started.
